“Meet Mr McNutley,” premiered on CBS Radio, thursday Sep 17, 1953 – but the radio show lasted only one season; the final broadcast took place June 10, 1954.
“Meet Mr. McNutley” did graduate to television, the TV version of which lasted one season longer than did its radio counterpart. Ray Milland and Phyllis Avery took on the roles of the absent-minded Professor Ray McNutley (head of English Dept. of fictitious Lynnhaven College for girls) and his pretty (and ideal!) wife, Mrs. Peggy McNutley.
At beginning of programs 2nd season on TV, a few adjustments were made to names and storylines: program name became “The Ray Milland Show” and Mr. McNutley became Mr. McNulty, drama teacher at Comstock University, where he often locked horns with Dean Dodsworth, played by Lloyd Corrigan.
