The Carnation Contented Hour had a varied musical history, opening in a half-hour 1932 format that featured an orchestra, a quartet, and a group called the Fireside Singers. In 1946 there was an abrupt shift from a concert to a popular emphasis. The title referred to the product’s advertising campaigns, which said that Carnation milk came from “contented cows.”
