Hawk Larabee is an old time radio western drama that originally started out as Hawk Durango. Airing on CBS it was one of the first of the ‘adult’ version of old time radio westerns. It predated the most famous of all old time radio westerns, Gunsmoke, by about 6 years. A good show, it just wasn’t up to the standards of the competing crop of other old time radio shows in that genre.
Taking place in 1840s Texas, when the west was still untamed, Hawk Larabee used traditional and often used story lines, such as cattle rustlers, poachers, etc. The series started with Barton Yarborough playing Hawk Durango, then quickly veteran old time radio actor Elliot Lewis took the role over as Hawk Larabee.
